Racers Capitalize on Bandits' Miscues For 3-0 Rubber Match Victory
BOX SCORE
Release care of Grace Weitz/Chicago Bandits
ELGIN, ILL.- Lisa Modglin's third inning solo home run was her second of the series and third of the season as the Akron Racers defeated the Chicago Bandits, 3-0 to take the series 2-1 at Judson University.
The Bandits were shut out for the second time in three days as they struggled to get points on the board. Rachel Folden, who struck a two-run walk off home run last night to win the game for the Bandits in eight innings was unable to record a hit today. Similarly, Bandits' third baseman, Stacy May, who led off last night's game with a home run, was unable to record a hit today while the team left 10 runners on base.
The Bandits' best opportunity to score came in the bottom of the sixth when Christine Knauer's bunt loaded the bases with only one out. However, the combined pitching of Racers' Taryne Mowatt (1-1), who had six walks and two strikeouts on the day, and Jamie Southern, who earned her second save today, helped the Racers escape the inning unscathed.
The loss moves the Bandits to third in the NPF standings with a 4-4 record as the Racers climb up to second place with their 5-3 record.
The Bandits will travel next to Akron, Ohio to match up with the Racers on their turf. The first game of a four game series starts at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, June 24.
