Rain Suspends Racers’ Series Opener Versus Bandits
Akron Racers and Chicago Bandits Suspended in Third
AKRON, Ohio (July 24, 2010)- The Akron Racers and Chicago Bandits were washed out atop the third inning at Firestone Stadium this evening.
Clear skies gave way to heavy bouts of lightening before a monsoon rolled into Akron, forcing both teams into the locker rooms. The expected forecast and non-stop flashes of lightening ultimately led to tonight’s suspension.
The game will resume tomorrow (Sunday, July 25) at 5:30 p.m. before the regular scheduled 7:35 p.m. contest. Fans unable to make tomorrow’s resumption are welcome to bring their ticket stub to the Akron Racers Box Office in exchange for another game this season.
Heading into the top of the third inning the contest was even at 1-all. Stacy May and the Bandits struck first, as the third baseman blasted her ninth homer of the year—a towering shot to left on the first pitch of the frame to give the Bandits a 1-0 lead.
Akron struck back in the bottom of the second after loading the bases with no outs before pushing a run across. Crystl Bustos led off with a single through the right side and Sharonda McDonald reached on an error before Kelley Montalvo dropped down a bunt single to juice the bases. After a Nikki Nemitz strikeout, Micaela Minner’s RBI groundout drove in Bustos to tie the game. A lineout would end the inning, stranding two runners in scoring position.
